NewFilmmakers is a unique Screening Series that gives new filmmakers the opportunity to screen their films in New York, Los Angeles, and Online. Tonight, August 20th, NewFilmmakers NY presents a Documentary Series, two Special Programs, a Short Film Program, and the new feature THE BEEKEEPER.

6:00 PM Documentary Series

Ben Kujawski WOODS BASEBALL (2013, 19 minutes)
It's 1997.U.S. President Bill Clinton is inaugurated for his second term. Yachtsman Tony Bullimore is found alive, 5 days after his boat capsized in the Southern Ocean. The first championship game of WOODS BASEBALL is held at Mick Cruzby Field.

6:30 PM Special Program Films shot with Google Glasses

Ben Fraternale OFF SCRIPT (2014, 9 minutes)
After suddenly seeing cameras following him, Jacob (Jesse Lubinsky) theorizes that his life is a scripted movie. Unseen to anyone else, these camera track his every move and force him to wonder if he has lost his mind.

Vince Werner 20/20 (2013, 6 minutes)
20/20 imagines a world, not too long from now, in which almost everyone wears Google Glass.The film follows Brandon as he floats through his day, blissfully unaware of the true implications of his devotion to cutting-edge technology.

Shanna Maurizi LATE NIGHT WITH CARL SAGAN (2013, 11 minutes)
Shot entirely on an iPhone with homemade props and frame by frame animation, the video is a re-staging, a re-imagining, and an insomniac response to Sagan's iconic 1980 series.

7:00 PM Special Program about Addiction

Nicholas Messero CHRISSY THE ADDICT (2014, 20 minutes)
Chrissy the Addict is about a young man named Christopher who goes through the negative effects of being addicted to drugs. Everyone in Christopher's life seems to have given up on him except for his girlfriend Janet.

Marta McGonagle SOBER (2013, 9 minutes)
A jazz night club is in full swing as the magic hour blankets downtown Los Angeles in a rainbow of colors. A beautiful woman, Laura, takes shot after shot of vodka, tequila, rum and later downs various drinks with her teenage daughter and friends.

7:30 PM Short Film Program

Dara Bratt EVERYONE THINKS THEY'RE SPECIAL. NOBODY CARES (2013, 15 minutes, RED)
With a super-storm looming, Noah deals with apathy, charity, insomnia, and sandwiches. Unable to sleep, Noah stands on her stoop, incapable of deciding what to do.

Alice Cox L TO CANARSIE (2010, 12 minutes)
A 'Who am I? What am I doing here?' film, late 20's Ella, an aspiring photographer, follows her musician boyfriend, Raj, to NYC. They land in the young heady artist district in the industrial section of Bushwick, Brooklyn.

Andrew Serban CONEY ISLAND DREAMS (2014, 24 minutes)
MAGGIE is a troubled young woman at the end of her rope. Desperate to return to her native Ireland, she meets with a mysterious and vaguely sinister older man who offers to pay her plane fare back to Ireland in exchange for one last job.

Amos Efrat DOWN TIME (2013, 29 minutes)
Four armchair philosophers, a pair of would-be wise guys and a gregarious bartender encounter vice and virtue over the course of a day in Brooklyn, New York.

9:15 PM Feature Presentation

THE BEEKEEPER (2013, 89 minutes, video)

The sweet but sticky world of New York City urban beekeeping is revealed.

NewFilmmakers screens at Anthology Film Archives on the Lower East Side at 32 Second Avenue & 2nd Street. NewFilmmakers LA screens at the AT&T Center, 1139 S Hill Street, and has become a leading showcase for new films in Hollywood. Many features screened at NewFilmmakers are now available on NewFilmmakers Online. Tickets for the whole evening are only $6 and are available at the Box Office the night of performance.
