According to the New York Post's Page Six, NBC is on the verge of announcing that Chuck Todd will become the new host of "Meet the Press", replacing current host David Gregory. Gregory has headed up the show for the past six years.

The show has recently struggled in the ratings race. The site reported last month that Gregory's days were numbered on the show after it fell behind CBS's "Face the Nation" and ABC's "This Week" for the year's second quarter.

CNN's Brian Stelter reports that "the transition will be swift - so swift that Gregory will not even host 'Meet the Press' this weekend." He adds that an announcement is expected today or Friday.

Todd currently serves as the NBC News political director and the host of MSNBC's "Daily Rundown."

An NBC spokeswoman did not respond to a request for comment on the report.
