NBC has picked up two new comedy pilots.

At today's TCA event, NBC announced that it had picked up STATE OF AFFAIRS, a new comedy pilot from Universal Television, and starring former GREY'S ANATOMY star Katherine Heigl. Joe Carnahan will write, direct, and executive produce alongside Heigl.

In STATE OF AFFAIRS, Heigl portrays a key CIA attaché who counsels the president on high-stakes incidents around the world. She balances her intense political responsibilities with a complicated personal life.

The network has also picked up an untitled comedy from Amy Poehler, with ORAGE IS THE NEW BLACK's Natasha Lyonne attached to star. Paperkite Productions and 3 Arts will produce.

In the project, Lyonne plays a young woman who's trying to find herself, but in the meantime she's working as the aide to a group of elderly people.

An Emmy Award winner and Golden Globe-nominated actress, Heigl is best known for her starring roles in the feature films "The Ugly Truth," "27 Dresses" and "Knocked Up," as well as her portrayal of Dr. Isobel 'Izzie' Stevens in "Grey's Anatomy."
