ABC Music Lounge's "Nashville"-inspired docu-web series, "On the Record," is live at www.abc.com/musiclounge with the original song "Playing Tricks" written by Striking Matches (Sarah Zimmermann and Justin Davis) and Adam Wright and performed by Charles Esten as Deacon Claybourne. The song is available on iTunes and ABC.com/MusicLounge, and featured on this week's episode of "Nashville," WEDNESDAY, DECEMBER 11 (10:00-11:00 p.m., ET) on the ABC Television Network.
For this week's "On the Record: Playing Tricks," fans are offered a special behind-the-scenes glimpse into the creative process surrounding
Charles Esten's character, Deacon Clayborne, as he continues to pursue his comeback as a solo artist. In interviews with songwriters
Striking Matches and
Adam Wright, "Nashville's" music supervisor Frankie Pine, music producer
Buddy Miller and the song's performer
Charles Esten, fans can hear and understand firsthand how important each week's featured song is to the story line.
"We were looking for something up tempo for Deacon and this was his "out-door, on-stage, rocking it" song. It had that incredible hook that kind of draws you in and once you hear it one time you can automatically sing it," shared Pine.
"I'm just so grateful for these writers and their brains that come up with this genius stuff that I get to not only sing, but act like my character wrote it," said Esten.
"We were looking for a song for Deacon to just find his way back to playing guitar. Chip can sing and can deliver a song, so I was really happy to get a song that Chip could sink his teeth into," added Miller.
"Nashville" airs WEDNESDAY, DECEMEBER 11 (10:00-11:00 p.m., ET) with a new episode and new music.
