As first reported on Deadline.com, Matthew Rhys has joined the cast of the upcoming FX drama pilot THE AMERICANS. The actor will join previously announced cast member Keri Russell in the project created by Joe Weisberg, executive produced by Graham Yost and directed by Gavin O’Connor.

THE AMERICANS tells the story of "two KGB spies posing as Americans in suburban Washington, DC in the early 1980s. The arranged marriage of Phillip Jennings (Rhys) and Elizabeth Jennings (Russell) grows more passionate and genuine by the day but is constantly tested by the escalation of the Cold War and the intimate, dangerous and darkly funny relationships they must maintain with a network of spies and informants under their control."

Rhys has appeared on TV in the drama series 'Brothers and Sisters'. He is currently starring in Roundabout Theatre Company's 'Look Back in Anger' opposite Adam Driver, Sarah Goldberg, and Charlotte Parry. The show, directed by Sam Gold, is now playing at the Laura Pels Theatre at the Harold and Miriam Steinberg Center for Theatre. The limited engagement will run through April 8, 2012.
