Fresh off last night's Oscar winner for Best Actor, Matthew McConaughey has officially announced that he will not return for the sophomore season of HBO's TRUE DETECTIVE, according to Variety.

When questioned about his return to the drama series at last night's backstage press room, the actor revealed, "No, I won't be back for season two. Season one was finite." He went on to joke that the award's show aired in head-to-head competition to last night's weekly episode. "It's probably airing right now," he quipped. 'Has anyone seen it? I made the thing ... and I'm not sure what happens."

True Detective is written by Nic Pizzolatto and directed by Cary Fukunaga. It centers on two detectives, Rust Cohle (Matthew McConaughey) and Martin Hart (Woody Harrelson), whose lives collide and entwine during a seventeen-year hunt for a serial killer in Louisiana.

The investigation of a bizarre murder in 1995 is framed and interlaced with testimony from the detectives in 2012, when the case has been reopened.

Watch new episodes of True Detective every Sunday at 9PM, only on HBO.
