According to The Hollywood Reporter, Tony nominee Martha Plimpton, just coming off of the Broadway revival of A DELICATE BALANCE, has signed on for ABC's upcoming comedy pilot from Dan Savage.

Titled FAMILY OF THE YEAR, "the single-camera comedy revolves around a picture-perfect family turned upside down when Danny, the youngest son (Noah Galvin). comes out of the closet. What seems like the end of their idyllic life turns out to be the beginning of a bright new chapter when everyone stops pretending to be perfect and actually starts being real.

Plimpton will star as Eileen O'Neal, Danny's mother. The character is described as the perfect mother who in reality has a marriage on the rocks and is liberated when she comes clean about her efforts to be perfect."

Award-winning American actress Martha first came to public attention in the 1980's for roles in films such as The Goonies, Parenthood, Woody Allen's Another Woman and Running on Empty. She currently stars as Virginia Chance in the FOX television series Raising Hope, which earned her an Emmy Award nomination for 'Outstanding Lead Actress in a Comedy Series'. Other regular television roles include THE GOOD WIFE (for which she won the Emmy Award for 'Outstanding Guest Actress in a Drama series'), ER, Grey's Anatomy and the HBO series How To Make It In America.
