MTV's SCREAM Premiere Draws 6 Million Viewers; Check Out Sneak Peek of Next Episode

The premiere episode of MTV's hit new slasher series "Scream" scared up big viewership numbers, drawing more than 6.0 million total viewers in live + 3, including 3.1 million viewers in MTV's core P12-34 audience. The episode jumped 45% in L+3 and earned a 1.4 rating among P12-34. It earned a 1.3 L+3 rating among P18-34. Additionally, the premiere episode of "Scream" has been streamed 506,000 times to date on MTV.com and the MTV app.

"Scream" now ranks as the most-watched new series premiere of the summer on cable with Millennials. The premiere was the number-one cable telecast in its time period with P12-34 and P18-34.

"This is a strong start for 'Scream' and, as we head into our second episode and the series' debut at Comic-Con this weekend, we've got a lot of momentum behind the scary, twisty, and ridiculously fun season ahead," said Susanne Daniels, President of Programming for MTV.

On tomorrow night's "Scream" episode, another teen's death raises questions and causes yet another rift between the friends, and a provocative podcaster shows up to report on the town's murders, past and present.
Additionally, the two-night premiere of MTV's "Teen Wolf" season 5B attracted 5.6 million total viewers, including 2.9 million viewers in MTV's core P12-34 audience. The first episode of the premiere event aired Monday, June 29 and drew a 1.9 L+3 rating among P12-34 and 1.4 among P18-34. The second episode aired Tuesday, June 30 and drew a 1.8 L+3 rating among P12-34 and 1.4 among P18-34. The "Teen Wolf" Season 5B premiere episodes have been streamed more than 2.0 million times to date on MTV.com and the MTV app.

The "Scream" premiere was big on social media as well, where the episode earned 54,000 tweets - approximately 15 tweets per second - during its initial airing. #MTVScream trended worldwide on Twitter from approximately 10:15 p.m. to 1:00 a.m.Eastern. #Scream was the #2 trending Instagram term throughout the night as well.
The entire "Scream" cast live-tweeted the premiere episode, and more than 50 celebrities joined the conversation via their verified accounts, including Arnold Schwarzenegger and original "Scream" stars Courteney Cox and Jaimie Kennedy.

MTV and Dimension TV (The Weinstein Company) bring the series adaptation of the hit horror film franchise, "Scream" to television with Bob and Harvey Weinstein as executive producers. In addition, Jill Blotevogel ("Harper's Island," "Ravenswood") and Jaime Paglia ("Arrow") will executive produce and show run, with John Shiban ("Hell on Wheels", "Breaking Bad") on board as a consulting producer.
