Made for Each Other, a beloved 1939 comedy-drama starring James Stewart and Carole Lombard and directed by John Cromwell, is one of several classics featured in THE MARCH 2017 lineup of Reel 13. Produced by David O. Selznick and released the same year as his magnum opus Gone With The Wind, Made for Each Other, relates a heartfelt story of a young couple surmounting the inevitable trials and tribulations of a new marriage. James Stewart plays John Mason, a struggling junior lawyer faced with a difficult announcement to make to his crusty and oh so proper boss, Judge Doolittle, played by Charles Coburn: on a recent business trip to Boston, John has met a young woman he really likes?in fact, he likes her so much, after just one day together they got married. Jane, the young lady in question, is played by the incandescent Carole Lombard, and we can instantly see why 24 hours was more than enough time for John to make up his mind. Yet soon they'll both discover that falling in love was the easy part; as the routine of marriage kicks in, the stresses and strains of their life together gradually accumulate, eventually bringing the couple to the point of wondering whether they truly are 'made for each other' after all, or if their love is what the French call a 'coup de foudre,' a bit of madness brought on by simple passion.

Every Saturday night beginning at 9 p.m., viewers can catch a Hollywood Classic followed by an Indie, presented by Columbia University professor Richard Peña. The evening concludes with a Short film selected by viewers who vote for their favorite of three shorts at Reel13.org.

Within the Whirlwind, Leading Ladies and Little Sparrows are the month's independent offering.
