Deadline reports that Disney plans to make a live-action reboot of the children's classic PETER PAN. 'Pete's Dragon' helmer David Lowery is set to direct from a script he co-wrote with his previous collaborator Toby Halbrooks.

The project joins a growing list of live-action adaptations from the studio, including Cinderella, Alice in Wonderland, Sleeping Beauty and the upcoming Mary Poppins and Dumbo. A live-action BEAUTY AND THE BEAST will also hit theaters next year. Jon Favreau's The Jungle Book arrives in theaters tomorrow, April 15th featuring an all-star cast of stars lending their voice talents to the jungle animals.

In 2014, NBC presented a live musical broadcast of Peter Pan starring Allison Williams in the title role, while Hugh Jackman recently appeared in the Peter Pan-themed PAN. Of course Disney Studios created an animated version of the tale in 1953. On stage, PETER PAN first came to Broadway in 1954 in a production starring Mary Martin. Today, the new musical FINDING NEVERLAND tells the tale of Pan author J.M. Barrie.

In other Pan news, Tinker Bell will receive her own live-action adaptation, starring and produced by Reese Witherspoon.
