Kevin James Returning to TV in New Cop Comedy

Variety reports that 10 years after THE KING OF QUEENS left the airwaves, series star Kevin James has received a 13-episode series production commitment from CBS and Sony Television for the 2016-17 season.

The comic will co-write the script with Rock Reubenand Bruce Helford. Helford will also be the show's showrunner and executive producer alongside Reuben, James and Jeff Sussman. According to the report, the series will follow, "a retired cop (James) who looks forward to spending more time with his wife and three kids, only to find himself in more trouble than he faced on the streets."

Commented Glenn Geller, President, CBS Entertainment, "We're beyond thrilled to be back in business with Kevin James! He's an incredibly talented star on every screen and every stage, who appeals to a broad audience. We can't wait to start working with Kevin and the amazing comedy talents of Bruce Helford and Rock Reuben on this exciting new project."

We are excited for everyone to see this next evolution of Kevin's family sitcom life and join his fans in celebrating his return to series television."

"King of Queens" aired for nine seasons from 1998-2007 on CBS. James went on to star in the "Paul Blart: Mall Cop" franchise.
