According to Entertainment Weekly, it was announced at Comic-Con on Friday that Caleb, played by Kenny Johnson, will be returning to Bates Motel as a series regular. Norma revealed in the last season that Caleb is her estranged brother who raped and impregnated her with Dylan. While he only appeared in two episodes, the writers plan to bring him back in a big way.

Executive producer Carlton Cuse stated, "When Kenny Johnson came on the show last year, the writers and the actors fell in love with his character, even though his character was kind of gnarly. He added this cool but also incredibly creepy element to the show... Kerry and I felt like once we wrote him in and wrote him out, we didn't have enough. We underestimated what we could get out of that character, so this season is about rectifying that."
