According to TVLine, the legendary Kathy Bates is nearing a deal to join Ryan Murphy's terrifying anthology series AMERICAN HORROR STORY.

Bates, who's no amateur when it comes to the grisly or gruesome (everyone remembers her performance in Stephen King's MISERY), is set to take on the role of Jessica Lange's new character's former best friend, and current nemesis.

Though plot points are naturally being kept under wraps, as of now, Jessica Lange, Frances Conroy, Lily Rabe, Taissa Farmiga, Evan Peters, and Sarah Paulson are confirmed to be returning for the post-ASYLUM outing of HORROR STORY. As BWW TV previously reported, Zachary Quinto will most likely not be apart of the next season.

Bates' stage credits include Broadway productions of 'night Mother, Come Back to the 5 & Dime Jimmy Dean, Jimmy Dean, Fifth of July and Goodbye Fidel. She also played the role of Miss Hannigan in Disney's television version of the musical Annie.

The Academy Award-winning has also starred in TITANIC, FRIED GREEN TOMATOES, and more. On television, Bates lead NBC's HARRY'S LAW, and appeared on THE OFFICE, as well as TWO AND A HALF MEN.
