It was a time of war and political scandal, but for three minutes and 20 seconds Americans across the U.S. could turn up their radios and hear the grooving beats and infectious lyrics of KC & The Sunshine Band's "Get Down Tonight." Times have changed since 1975, but fast forward to 2015 and here we are celebrating the 40th anniversary of "Get Down Tonight" topping the charts. Harry Wayne "KC" Casey and KC and The Sunshine Band are featured in a brand-new episode of CNN's The Seventies "What's Goin On," premiering tonight, August 13, at 9 p.m. ET/PT.

The Seventies is a groundbreaking, first-hand look of the 1970s that examines the decade through its politics, culture, and historic events. The "What's Goin' On" episode features KC and explores the decade when popular music exploded into a variety of new formats and genres. While KC and The Sunshine Band founded the "Dance Revolution," artists such as Bruce Springsteen, David Bowie, Donna Summer, The Jackson Five, Stevie Wonder, The Talking Heads and others also reshaped the art form. The series is executive produced by Tom Hanks and Gary Goetzman (Playtone), in association with HBO and Mark Herzog (Herzog & Company).

With sales of over 100 million records, nine Grammy nominations, three Grammy Awards and an American Music Award, KC and The Sunshine Band are still known today as one of the most progressive bands of the 70s. For over 40 years the group has done just that, topping the charts with seven No. 1 singles and three triple platinum albums, winning three Grammy Awards, including Album of the Year for the Saturday Night Fever soundtrack, an American Music Award, and becoming the first act since The Beatles to score four No. 1 pop singles in one 12-month period in 1976. KC and the Sunshine Band's unique meeting of Caribbean, pop, R&B and Latin inspired infectious grooves and their distinctive Sunshine Sound, impacting the world over and teaching them how to boogie. The band's infectious sound has given life to countless ad campaigns, hundreds of movie soundtracks and numerous television shows, including the BBC's Strictly Come Dancing in 2014. In 2001, KC was honored with the National Association of Recording Arts and Sciences Governor's Award, the highest honor given by a chapter of the Academy.
