Deadline reports that John Stamos and THE WIZ LIVE! producers Craig Zadan and Neil Meron are in the early stages of development for a new cable drama series, chronicling the excessive world of daytime soap operas in the 1980's. The show is described as "Boogie Nights in the soap world."

Currently untitled, the project will be based on Stamos' personal experiences portraying Blackie Parrish on the long-running ABC daytime sudser 'General Hospital.' The early 80's role marked the breakthrough for the 'Full House' star's acting career.

According to the site, the series "will explore the colorful and often dark world of soaps as it follows the journey of a young man thrust into soap stardom, during a decade defined by Reaganomics, greed, excess, indulgence and materialism. As a newly minted teen idol, he will struggle to balance his family life, working at his fathers restaurant and maintain his humble upbringing while navigating the temptations of sex, drugs and fame."

Stamos will serve as executive producer alongside Zadan and Meron through the duo's Storyline Entertainment. The trio have previously collaborated on the Emmy-nominated miniseries Beach Boys: An American Family and the TV movie, Martin and Lewis.

John Stamos recently starred in the FOX comedy 'Grandfathered' and currently produces and cameos on Netflix's Fuller House. This year he will star in the sophomore season of FOX's SCREAM Queens. He has appeared on Broadway in BYE BYE BIRDIE and CABARET.

Zadan and Meron are currently hard at work preparing for NBC's next live musical, HAIRSPRAY LIVE!. They are also collaborating with Aaron Sorkin for NBC's first live drama, A FEW GOOD MEN, set to air in 2017.
