Joel Edgerton to Join Cast of Kathryn Bigelow's Bin Laden Film

Variety reports that actor Joel Edgerton has officially signed on to join the cast of Kathryn Bigelow's currently untitled Osama Bin Laden movie. It had been rumored that Edgerton, best known as the star of 'The Warrior', was interested in the project but according to the report, negotiations have only now been made official.

In a recent report on Deadline.com, actors Jessica Chastain, EdgaR Ramirez and Mark Strong were also rumored to be in negotiations to join the cast. Other names being mentioned for roles in the upcoming film include Idris Elba, Rooney Mara, Jennifer Ehle, Guy Pearce, Nina Arianda and Tom Hardy. Sony Pictures had earlier confirmed that the film has been given a release date of December 19, 2012.

Bigelow has been collaborating with screenwriter Mark Boal on the adaptation of the book 'Kill Bin Laden', which chronicles the US attempts to capture the leader of Al Qaeda in the battle of Tora Bora in late 2001.

Joel Edgerton has appeared as Stanley Kowalski opposite Cate Blanchett in the 2009 production of 'A Streetcar Named Desire' at the Brooklyn Academy Of Music. His stage credits in Australia include Henry V and The Pillowman. His film credits also include 'The Waiting City' and Baz Luhrmann's highly anticipated film adaptation of 'The Great Gatsby' in which he will portray Tom Buchanan.
