Jessica Chastain Rules Over Box Office; MAMA & ZERO Take Friday NightJessica Chastain is having a major couple of weeks.

Following her Academy Award nomination for ZERO DARK THIRTY, making her Broadway debut, and winning a Golden Globe for 'Best Actress, Chastain's latest movie, MAMA, is making some major money at the box office. According to the Hollywood Reporter, the film took in $10.1 million dollars on Friday, easily claiming the top spot. Her other film, THIRY, directed by Kathryn Bigelow, took second place with $4.6M.

For the entire four-day weekend, Universal predicts that MAMA will gross approximately $30 million. Sony is pushing for Zero Dark Thirty to earn another $18M following its box office win with $24M last weekend.

Also noteworthy: Silver Linings Playbook has finally open nationwide as of Friday, where it took in $3M . It's projected to gross Somewhere Between $12-13 million come Monday.

MAMA, produced by Guillermo Del Toro, follows the eerie story of a couple, Annie and Lucas, who are faced with the challenge of raising Lucas' young nieces, who were discovered in a forest after being lost there for five years. Nobody knows how they survived in the forest for that long. It becomes apparent that the girls are being haunted by a ghostly woman they believe to be their mother.

Zero Dark Thirty was nominated for five Academy Awards, including 'Best Picture' and its leading lady, Jessica Chastain, for 'Best Actress.'

Directed and co-produced by Kathryn Bigelow with a screenplay by Mark Boal, both associated with The Hurt Locker, also features Chris Pratt, James Gandolfini, Joel Edgerton, EdgaR Ramirez, and Mark Strong.
