Variety has reported that Academy Award-winner Colin Firth is currently in talks to join Disney's upcoming Mary Poppins sequel, Mary Poppins Returns.

Firth would take on the role of the president of the Fidelity Fiduciary Bank, William Weatherall Wilkins, and would join a cast that includes Emily Blunt (Into the Woods) as the titular nanny and musical theatre phenom and Hamilton creator, Lin-Manuel Miranda, as lamplighter, Jack.

The casting would reunite Firth with his MAMA MIA co-star Meryl Streep, who is also in talks to join the cast as Mary Poppins' cousin, Topsy.

Directed by Rob Marshall, the film joins a growing number of live-action Disney remakes slated for a two-year period. The film is scheduled for a December 2018 release.
