Horror Movie Icon Wes Craven Dies at 76

According to The Hollywood Reporter, horror movie icon Wes Craven, perhaps best known for the Nightmare on Elm Street and SCREAM franchises, passed away on Sunday, August 30th after a battle with brain cancer. He was 76 years-old.

Craven, whose created Freddy Krueger, the epitome of the horror movie genre, died at his home in Los Angeles, his family announced. Survivors include his wife, producer and former Disney Studios vice president Iya Labunka.

The film director, writer, producer, and actor helmed the first installment of Nightmare on Elm Street and Wes Craven's New Nightmare, and co-writing A Nightmare on Elm Street 3: Dream Warriors with Bruce Wagner.

He also helmed all four films in the Scream series, and co-created the Ghostface character. Some of his other films include The Hills Have Eyes, The Last House on the Left, Red Eye and My Soul to Take.
