Remember the Alamo! It's a rallying cry familiar to generations of Americans. But what is the real history behind it? On May 18, at 10PM ET/PT, Ray Liotta narrates, AVENGING THE ALAMO: THE ROAD TO TEXAS RISING, a one-hour special on HISTORY, presenting in-depth the events preceding and surrounding the defense of the Alamo and its legacy - including its impact on the outcome of the Texas Revolution and why it remains significant today. The documentary serves as a precursor to HISTORY'S event series TEXAS RISING, which premieres on Memorial Day.

A line up of notable historians and experts will detail the historical timeline and speak to the pivotal moments that define the Texas Revolution. Actors from the HISTORY event series TEXAS RISING - Bill Paxton (Sam Houston), Olivier Martinez (General Antonio Lopez de Santa Anna), Jeffrey Dean Morgan (Deaf Smith) and Cynthia Addai-Robinson (Emily West) - add a fresh and contemporary perspective to our understanding of the personalities and motivations - as well as the character strengths and flaws - of those who played crucial roles in this real-life drama.

The people and the events that shaped the Texas Revolution would ultimately contribute to the fabric of both U.S and Mexican history. Americans came to view the revolutionists as dedicated patriots, many of whom paid the ultimate price for freedom. South of the border, however, these same people are often seen as brazen interlopers, who introduced slavery to Texas before stealing the territory from Mexico. Perhaps not surprisingly, the truth lies somewhere in between. And it is that truth, which AVENGING THE ALAMO: THE ROAD TO TEXAS RISING strives to illuminate.

HISTORY is also launching an education outreach around the documentary, providing original sources and background context for students to explore the era of the Texas Revolution. ?These resources will feature documents from the Texas State Archives and Library Commission and first-person sources related to the Alamo and the Battle of San Jacinto and will be distributed digitally to HISTORY's nationwide network of educators.

AVENGING THE ALAMO: THE ROAD TO TEXAS RISING is produced by Thinkfactory Media for HISTORY. Executive Producers for Thinkfactory are Joanne Rubino, Adam Reed, Adam Freeman and Leslie Greif.
