Variety reports exclusively that Hasbro Studios will bring the animated series MY LITTLE PONY to the big screen in 2017. The Studio will produce and finance the project in-house. 'Ice Age' scribe Joe Ballarini will pen the script.

Hasbro Studios president said that he hopes to release the film "on the broadest possible number of screens," adding "We've very excited about the potential of that movie."

Developed by Bonnie Zacherle, Charles Muenchinger and Steve D'Aguanno, "My Little Pony" was first introduced in 1983. Since that time, the colorful characters have appeared in four animated series and been revised over the years, spiking strong sales in throughout the 1980s and again in 2010.

Hasbro has previously produced direct-to-homevideo animated movies featuring the franchise and is producing the 100th episode of thecurrent TV series that now airs in over 180 countries worldwide on kids cable channel Discovery Family, formerly The Hub, beginning Oct. 13.
