HBO Picks Up Dwayne Johnson and Mark Wahlberg's BALLERS Series

Variety writes that HBO has picked up the new series BALLERS from Dwayne Johnson and Mark Wahlberg. Peter Berg directed the pilot from a script by Steve Levinson. BALLERS will be Johnson's first television acting gig.

BALLERS stars Johnson, a retired football player, and centers on a group of "former and current" athletes, including "a highly spiritual pro athlete, financial adviser, sports agent, ESPN sideline reporter and ex-wife of a pro football player".

Levinson will executive produce with Johnson, Wahlberg, Evan Reilly, Dany Garcia and Berg.

Wahlberg's upcoming big screen projects as producer include Entourage, The Roman and Stealing Cars. His past producing credits include the TV series Boardwalk Empire, How to Make It in America and In Treatment, as well as the feature films Contraband, Broken City, Prisoners and Lone Survivor.

Johnson will next appear in the films Hercules, Fast & Furious 7 and San Andreas. His past film credits include Fast & Furious 6, Pain & Gain, G.I. Joe: Retaliation, Snitch, Fast Five, Faster, The Other Guys, Get Smart, Race to Witch Mountain, The Scorpion King and more.
