While fans eagerly await the premiere of the seventh season of GAME OF THRONES on July 16th, HBO programming chief Casey Bloys hinted in a new interview with Entertainment Weekly that the eighth and final installment, consisting of only six episodes, may not air until 2019.

While discussing why GOT showrunners David Benioff and Dan Weiss will not pursue a spinoff series, Bloys revealed, "By the time the final season airs, Dan and David will have been at this for 12 years." EW pressed the issue further, asking, "So as of now, the final season could air in 2018 and / or in 2019 depending on their needs?" Bloys responded, "Yeah. They have to write the episodes and figure out the production schedule. We'll have a better sense of that once they get further into the writing."

While It remains unclear exactly when the final season will air on the cabler, it seems that Benioff and Weiss are under no pressure to get the series wrapped up in the immediate future.
