Gina Carano to Star Opposite Ryan Reynolds in X-MEN Spinoff DEADPOOL

The Hollywood Reporter writes that Gina Carano has landed a role opposite Ryan Reynolds in the X-MEN spinoff DEADPOOL, directed by Tim Miller.

In DEADPOOL, "Reynolds is an assassin who is dying of cancer who undergoes a procedure that is supposed to cure him but ends up twisted and scarred while also imbued with super-powers."

Reynolds originaly played the reckless mercenary in X-MEN ORIGINS: WOLVERINE.

Carano will play 'Angel Dust,' who was part of an underground mutant group, The Morlocks, in the comics.

Additionally, T.J. Miller is in the cast in a comedic role, with the X-MEN comic book character Colossus also making an appearance.

As previously reported, HOMELAND's Morena Baccarin, ARROW's Jessica De Gouw, VIKINGS' Sarah Greene, TEEN WOLF's Crystal Reed, THE RED BAND SOCIETY's Rebecca Rittenhouse and ORANGE IS THE NEW BLACK's Taylor Schilling are all under consideration for DEADPOOL's female lead.

The 20th Century Fox film will hit theaters on February 12, 2016.

Carano's past film credits include IN THE BLOOD, FAST & FURIOUS 6, HAYWIRE and BLOOD AND BONE. Among her upcoming big screen projects are BUS 657 and KICKBOXER: VENGEANCE.
