Variety reports exclusively that FOX is teaming with writer-director Craig Brewer and Paramount TV for a small screen adaptation of the 1980 John Travolta and Debra Winger-led film URBAN COWBOY.

Brewer will pen and direct the pilot and serve as executive producer the series Paramount TV and 20th Century FOX TV. Also on board to executive produce are the film's original producer Robert Evans and Sue Naegle.

According to the report, the TV adaptation of "Urban Cowboy" will "follow the star-crossed relationship of Sissy and Bud as it unfolds against the gritty backdrop of rodeos, oil refineries, line dancing clubs and other aspects of modern-day Texas."

The original film, written by Aaron Latham and James Bridges and directed by Bridges was Travolta's follow up to Saturday Night Fever and confirmed his place as a verified Hollywood star.
