Every Major CBS NEWS Broadcasts Posts Year-to-Year Viewer Growth

Every major CBS News broadcast posted year-to-year audience increases, according to Nielsen live plus same day ratings through August 30. Additionally, more than 186 million people have watched part of a CBS News broadcast since the start of the current television year in September 2014.

The news division's original reporting fueled growth across the board, including the CBS EVENING NEWS WITH SCOTT PELLEY, 60 MINUTES, FACE THE NATION, CBS THIS MORNING, CBS SUNDAY MORNING WITH CHARLES OSGOOD and CBS THIS MORNING: SATURDAY.

Last week's broadcasts featured extensive coverage of the 10th anniversary of Hurricane Katrina, including reports from Steve Hartman, Michelle Miller, Mark Strassmann, Tracy Smith, Omar Villafranca and Martha Teichner, along with John Dickerson's interviews of Louisiana Gov. Bobby Jindal and New Orleans Mayor Mitch Landrieu.

Here's a recap of how CBS News' broadcasts performed last week, according to Nielsen live plus same day ratings:

The CBS EVENING NEWS WITH SCOTT PELLEY delivered 6.50 million viewers (up +6% year-to-year from 6.14m) and maintained its adults 25-54 rating (1.2/05) for the week ending August 28. The broadcast added +360,000 viewers compared to last year. Television year-to-date, the CBS EVENING NEWS WITH SCOTT PELLEY is up +3% in viewers (7.01m from 6.79m) and even in adults 25-54 (1.4/06) compared to last year.

60 MINUTES (R) was #1 at 7:00 PM in viewers on August 30. The broadcast delivered 8.53 million viewers (up +19% from 7.16m) and a 1.6/05 with adults 25-54 (up +33% from a 1.2/05) when compared to last year. Television year-to-date, 60 MINUTES is up +2% in viewers 11.01m from 10.79m) and is delivering a 2.3/07 with adults 25-54.

FACE THE NATION delivered 3.11 million viewers and a 0.6/03 with adults 25-54 on August 30. The broadcast was up +30% in viewers (from 2.40m) and +50% in adults 25-54 (from 0.4/02) compared to last year. Television year-to-date, FACE THE NATION is the #1 Sunday morning public affairs broadcast with viewers (3.32m) and adults 25-54 (0.7/04, tied) compared to last year. Editor's Note: FACE THE NATION's second half-hour was broadcast contiguously across 76.3% of the CBS affiliates.

CBS THIS MORNING delivered 3.24 million viewers and a 0.8/07 with adults 25-54 for the week ending August 28 and was the only network morning show to post year-to-year increases in each category. CBS THIS MORNING gained +340,000 viewers (+12% from 2.90m) compared to the same week last year, closed the viewership gap with NBC by more than half a million (530,000) viewers and cut the viewer deficit with ABC by 630,000 viewers. Television year-to-date, CBS THIS MORNING is delivering 3.35 million viewers (+10% from 3.04m) and a 0.8/07 with adults 25-54, when compared to a year ago.

CBS SUNDAY MORNING was the #1 Sunday morning news program with adults 25-54 and viewers on August 30. The broadcast delivered 5.51m viewers (up +15% from 4.78m) and a 1.3/08 in adults 25-54 (up +30% from a 1.0/06) compared to the same day last year. Television year-to-date, CBS SUNDAY MORNING is +1% in viewers (5.86m from 5.80m) compared to last year.

CBS THIS MORNING: SATURDAY delivered 2.20m viewers (up +60% from 1.37m) and a 0.6/05 in adults 25-54 (up +100% from a 0.3/03) on August 29. Television year-to-date, CBS THIS MORNING: SATURDAY is up +9% in viewers (2.07m from 1.90m) and even in adults 25-54 (0.5/04) compared to last year.
