Premium entertainment network EPIX announced today that Milius, a 90-minute original documentary on controversial filmmaker John Milius, will premiere on Saturday, January 11, at 8PM ET. The film examines the life story of one of the most influential, thought-provoking and divisive film directors in Hollywood history, as well as his fall from Hollywood grace due to his radical beliefs and behavior.

Milius follows the filmmaker from his childhood aspirations to join the military and his formative years at the USC Film School to his work on landmark films such as Apocalypse Now, Jaws, Conan the Barbarian, Dirty Harry and Red Dawn. John Milius was a mentor to many filmmaking greats including George Lucas and Steven Spielberg but, despite his influence, he faced increased opposition from the Hollywood establishment in the wake of the hyper-violent and jingoistic Red Dawn.

When it opened in 1984, Red Dawn was the first film to be released in the United States with an MPAA rating of PG-13. At the time, Red Dawn was considered the most violent film by the Guinness Book of Records and The National Coalition on Television Violence, which tabulated 134 acts of violence per hour or 2.23 per minute.

The documentary explores whether the persona of "Milius" - the gun slinging, anti-Hollywood conservative - may have completely overshadowed "John," the acclaimed writer and director. The film also questions whether his final chapter will redefine how the world - and the movie industry - will remember the provocative filmmaker.

Milius includes in-depth interviews with the filmmaker himself, as well as Steven Spielberg, George Lucas, Arnold Schwarzenegger, Francis Ford Coppola, Harrison Ford, Michael Mann, Robert Zemeckis, Oliver Stone, Bryan Singer, Charlie Sheen, Matthew Weiner and other actors and filmmakers who either worked with the filmmaker or were influenced by his body of work.

SMELLS LIKE VICTORY: EPIX SALUTES JOHN MILIUS will be an all day tribute to the man and his work featuring the original documentary along with Apocalypse Now, Red Dawn ('84), Farewell to the King, Flight of the Intruder and Dillinger.
