EGOT Winner Rita Moreno to Star in ONE DAY AT A TIME TV Reboot

Deadline reports that Broadway's Rita Moreno will star in a Latino family reboot of Norman Lear's classic 1970's sitcom comedy ONE DAY AT A TIME from Sony Pictures TV. The series was picked up by Netflix for a 13-episode straight-to-series order.

According to the report, the multi-camera comedy will follow "a Cuban-American family, centering on a recently separated former military mom who is navigating a new single life while raising her radical teenaged daughter and socially adept tween son, with the "help" of her old school Cuban-born mom and a friends-without-benefits building manager named Schneider." Moreno will portray the grandmother of the family.

Rumors of the Lear remake have abounded over the last several years. The series, developed by Lear and created by Whitney Blake and Allan Manings, aired on CBS for nine seasons and starred Bonnie Franklin as the divorced mother of two daughters, played by Valerie Bartinelli and Mackenzie Phillips. Pat Harrington, who just passed away last week, portrayed building super Dwayne Schneider.

Moreno can currently be seen in a recurring on the CW's Jane The Virgin. She is one of the few performers ever to have earned an Emmy, a Grammy, an Oscar and a Tony. She won an Oscar for her portrayal of 'Anita' in the film adaptation of West Side Story.

She will next be seen on the big screen in Six Dance Lessons in Six Weeks. She has appeared on television in Happily Divorced, Cane, Law & Order: Criminal Intent, Ugly Betty, Wanted, The Guardian, Oz and more.

Moreno has starred on Broadway in The Odd Couple, Wally's Cafe, The Ritz -- for which she won a 1975 Tony Award -- The National Health, Gantry, Last of the Red Hot Lovers, The Sign in Sidney Brustein's Window and Skydrift, as well as She Loves Me in the West End.
