According to The Hollywood Reporter, Disney has dropped its plans for TRON 3.

The project never officially got the go-ahead, though recent rumors had tapped TRON: LEGACY helmer Joseph Kosinski to direct, with stars Olivia Wilde (as Quorra) and Garrett Hedlund set to return. The team was also eyeing Jared Leto for a role.

The franchise launched with Disney's original 1982 sci-fi film, which starred Jeff Bridges as a computer programmer stuck inside a computer world called the Grid.

The 2010 sequel TRON: LEGACY gave Bridges' character a son (played by Hedlund), who traveled to the Grid to find his father.

Sad news all around. Not that Disney is hurting for live-action material, though. Revamps of THE JUNGLE BOOK, BEAUTY AND THE BEAST, MULAN and PINOCCHIO are all in the queue.
