ABC Music Lounge's "Nashville"-inspired docu-web series, "On the Record," is live at www.abc.com/musiclounge with the original song "Black Roses" written by Lucy Schwartz and performed by Clare Bowen as Scarlett O'Connor. The song is available on iTunes and ABC.com/MusicLounge and featured on this week's all-new episode of "Nashville," WEDNESDAY, FEBRUARY 26 (10:00-11:00 p.m., ET) on the ABC Television Network.
"On the Record" goes behind the scenes with "Nashville's" music supervisor Frankie Pine, Dawn Soler (SVP of Music, ABC Studios), songwriter Lucy Schwartz and the song's performer Clare Bowen as they discuss this week's featured song, "Black Roses." In interviews fans learn that this week's song choice, "Black Roses," was written specifically to help tell the story of Scarlett's past and offer a glimpse into her personal relationships.
"'Black Roses' is different for us and it's hopefully the start of a new thing that we'll be doing because the song was created specifically for the show," said Soler.
"We wanted to find a really deep story to explain Scarlett's poetry and where these words that are hidden deep down inside -- where they come from," shared Pine. "Lucy is a songwriter that is here in Los Angeles. She wanted to write some songs specifically for the show. She wrote us three or four songs and "Black Roses" immediately jumped out at me."
"It was something so different - nothing like anything I'd heard on the show before and it had so much pain in it and such accusation," added Bowen. "She tries to be what people want her to be to make them happy to keep the peace. This is really exploring Scarlett's past and why she is the way she is."
"Nashville" airs WEDNESDAY, FEBRUARY 26 (10:00-11:00 p.m., ET) with a new episode and new music.
