According to Variety, Christian Slater has joined the cast of Lars von Trier's upcoming film NYMPHOMANIAC. The actor joins previously announced cast members Shia LaBeouf, Charlotte Gainsbourg, Stellan Skarsgard, Jamie Bell and Connie Nielsen in the sexual drama.

The film tells the story of a woman’s erotic journey from birth to the age of 50 as told by the main character, the self-diagnosed nymphomaniac, Joe (Gainsbourg). Slater will portray Joe's father in the film.

According to the synopsis, "on a cold winter’s evening the old, charming bachelor, Seligman, finds Joe beaten up in an alleyway. He brings her home to his flat where he tends to her wounds while asking her about her life. He listens intently as Joe over the next 8 chapters recounts the lushly branched-out and multi faceted story of her life, rich in associations and interjecting incidents."

Production on the film is currently underway in Sweden.

Slater made his film debut with a small role in The Postman Always Rings Twice before playing a leading role in the 1985 film The Legend of Billie Jean. His other film credits include The Name of the Rose, Heathers, Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves, Interview with the Vampire: The Vampire Chronicles, Broken Arrow, and Hard Rain. His TV credits include The West Wing, Alias and Breaking In.
