Chris Cooper Joins AMAZING SPIDER-MAN as 'Green Goblin'

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Chris Cooper has signed on to play Nonam Osborn, aka 'The Green Goblin' in the newest AMAZING SPIDER-MAN franchise. Willem Dafoe took on the role in the original Spider-Man film series.

The role of Osborn begins as a mentor to Spidey, but eventually turns to the dark side. It is currently uncertain whether Cooper will appear as the character in the upcoming film or its sequel.

Spider-Man stars Andrew Garfield as the title role and Emma Stone as his love interest. Jamie Foxx and Paul Giamatti also star in the film coming to theaters on May 2, 2014. Alex Kurtzman, Roberto Orci and Jeff Pinkner penned the screenplay based on a previous draft by James Vanderbilt. The film will be produced by Avi Arad and Matt Tolmach.

Coopers film credits include The Bourne Identity, American Beauty, Capote, The Town, The Kingdom, Syriana, October Sky, Seabiscuit, Breach and Adaptation, for which he won both the Academy Award and Golden Globe Award for Best Supporting Actor. He will next be seen in August: Osage County.
