48 HOURS: DEVIL'S ISLAND was Saturday's #1 program with viewers, according to Nielsen live plus same day ratings for Jan. 21. 48 HOURS: "Devil's Island" (10:00-11:00 PM, ET) delivered 4.50 million viewers and a 1.1/03 with adults 25-54, the demographic that matters most to those who advertise in news. Compared to the last first-run episode on Jan. 7, 48 HOURS was up +38% in adults 25-54 (from 0.8/02) and added +1.01m viewers (from 3.49m, +29%).

48 HOURS: "Innocence Lost" was Saturday's #2 program with viewers, according to Nielsen. "Innocence Lost" delivered 3.88 million viewers and a 0.9/03 with adults 25-54.

"Devil's Island" featured Peter Van Sant and 48 HOURS' investigation into the death of Yvonne Baldelli, who moved to Panama with her boyfriend and never returned alive. However, Baldelli's boyfriend, Brian Brimager, made it out and returned to California alone, where police learned he was leading a second life that included a new wife. The investigation into Baldelli's disappearance led through the swamps of Panama and back to San Diego. Relying on a little used Federal law, prosecutors charged Brimager for Balldelli's murder in the United States, even though the crime allegedly occurred in Panama. Brimager first pleaded not guilty to the murder charge and all felonies, but new evidence forced him to rethink that decision.

"Innocence Lost" featured Erin Moriarty and 48 HOURS' report on the latest twist, that she's been covering since 1991, in the shocking murders of four teenage girls in an Austin, Texas yogurt shop. Police tracked every tip and even interrogated four teenagers. The investigation dragged on until 1999, when new detectives announced they'd made four arrests - the same four teenagers interviewed in 1991. Eventually charges against two of the teens were dropped, but two others went on trial and were convicted. However, the case was far from over. In 2009, the two convictions were overturned. Then, in a totally unexpected twist, the district attorney ran some DNA tests, which do not link any of the four men to the murders.
