CBS EVENING NEWS Posts Best Audience Delivers Since February 2015

The CBS EVENING NEWS WITH SCOTT PELLEY delivered its best audience delivery since the week ending Feb. 20, 2015 with 8.21m viewers, according to Nielsen live plus same day ratings for the week ending Jan. 8.

The CBS broadcast also maintained its rating in adults 25-54 (1.7/06) - the demographic most important to those who advertise in news - compared to last year. CBS tied ABC in the key adults 25-54 demographic (1.8/07 for CBS; 1.8/06 for ABC) on Tuesday.

Season-to-date, the CBS EVENING NEWS WITH SCOTT PELLEY posted the largest percentage gain in viewers (+4%, 7.46m from 7.17m) among the network evening news broadcasts and maintained its rating in adults 25-54 (1.4/06), compared to last season.

On last week's broadcasts, Jan Crawford was at the White House when President Obama released his plan for executive action on gun violence; Major Garrett interviewed Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Texas) on the presidential campaign trail; John Blackstone covered the standoff with armed protesters in Oregon; Ben Tracy reported on the capture of El Chapo; Jim Axelrod investigated a pain pill epidemic in West Virginia and reported that patients are now suing doctors that allegedly got them hooked; and Dr. Jon LaPook reported on changes to the U.S. government's dietary guidelines.
