Bad Film Fest, created by Shawn Wickens and Starr Kendall, welcomes aspiring filmmakers to share their work in a fun, "anything goes" environment. Their goal is to entertain the audience, and to champion the misfits, castoffs, and underdogs of cinema.

The festival takes place at Cloud City, 85 N 1st St (between Berry and Wythe Avenues), Brooklyn, New York - 7pm and 9pm Friday, Saturday and Sunday, May 19, 20, 21 with additional 5pm screenings on Saturday and Sunday. Different films will be screened each night. Tickets are $8 and available at BadFilmFest.com or badfilmfest5.bpt.me.

In the words of co-founder Starr Kendall, "Bad can mean a lot of things... a film that revolts against mainstream sensibilities could be labelled "bad". Or maybe it's just very-low budget, creatively cuts a lot of corners, poorly acted yet still a lot of fun. What you might think is bad might be amazing to someone else."

The festival received 300 submissions from all over the United States and 30 other countries. Bad Film Fest 2017 will project just over 90 shorts ranging from animated projects to documentaries, horror films, horror spoofs, campy sci-fi serials, fake trailers, over-the-top comedies and heartfelt dramas.

"Since the election and inauguration, much of NYC and the world has been on edge," co-founder, Shawn Wickens points out. "People are frustrated and nervous and stressed out about where to fight and where to focus their time and energy. Hopefully Bad Film Fest can supply just a few needed moments of fun, nonsense and catharsis."

Highlights from this year's schedule include Hall Monitors - a "Cops" inspired mockumentary made by some NYC high schoolers, The Last Movie - a David Lynch-esque absurd film within a film from Iran, and Computer Man - a hilarious, sci-fi gem about a nerd who morphs into an unlikely hero when he melds with a motherboard.

The driving force behind the Bad Film Fest is to inspire young artists who want to make films, but are worried what others will think. Using the word "bad" is just a clever and satirical way of releasing the pressure; it is OK if you make an imperfect film. Beginners and veterans alike are encouraged to experiment with their ideas with total abandon.

Created in 2012, Bad Theater Fest and Bad Film Fest are committed to creating unique performance opportunities for artists in New York City and beyond. At the conclusion of Bad Film Fest, the organization will take submissions for the next Bad Theater Fest to will take place in New York City this autumn.
