According to The Hollywood Reporter, New Line has acquired the rights to the classic 1970's sitcom THREE'S COMPANY and plan to adapt it for the big screen. Abby Kohn and Marc Silverstein are set to pen the screenplay with Robert Cort producing.

The hit show, which ran on ABC from 1977 to 1984 followed "the friendship forged between two single women living in Santa Monica who took in a man as a roommate, this in an age when such cohabitation was not a social norm. To keep the arrangement kosher with the landlords, the trio concocted a story saying the man had no ill intentions towards the women because he was gay. A comedy of errors, with plenty of innuendo, ensued week after week for eight seasons."

John Ritter received an Emmy Award for his portrayal of Jack Tripper. Joyce DeWitt and Suzanne Somers made up the rest of the original trio. Somers was later replaced by Jenilee Harrison and then Priscilla Barnes. The show was based on the British TV series 'Man About the House.'

New Line and the writers and producer plan to set the new project in the decade of the 1970's.
