Children can take a trip back in time to an era when life was simpler and slower-paced with author Betty C. Rubin's new children's book "The Life and Adventures of Betsy" (published by AuthorHouse).

Betsy lived in the farm country as a little girl and had a lot of animal friends with whom she could play. Young readers will meet fluffy yellow chicks, funny baby pigs with curly tails and many other interesting farm animals in Rubin's new book.

Rubin says the story can be entertaining and effective for young readers to connect with their grandparents or great-grandparents, while educating those young readers about a time without televisions, computers and video games - a time when life was all about in-person interaction.

"Sometimes it is good to slow down!" Rubin says. "Stop and enjoy the sunrise and sunset. Inhale the beauty around you. Life is short even if one lives to be 100. Now it seems we cannot go fast enough; we are non-stop on computers, phones and every mechanical gizmo invented, impatient for the next magical invention to arrive. My book invites any and all to slow down, live and enjoy some simplicity."
