If Ben Affleck as Batman doesn't work out, Benedict Cumberbatch is willing to give it a shot.

According to Variety, at today's PENGUINS OF MADAGASCAR panel at Comic-Con, when asked which comicbook character he'd like to play, he responded with: "Batman, I guess, yeah."

Affleck will join Henry Cavill in Warner Bros. Pictures' BATMAN VS. SUPERMAN: DAWN OF JUSTICE, hitting theaters on May 6, 2016.

The highly anticipated film, directed by Zack Snyder, will also star Amy Adams, Diane Lane, Laurence Fishburne, Jesse Eisenberg, Jeremy Irons, Holly Hunter, Callan Mulvey, Tao Okamoto, Ray Fisher, and Scoot McNairy. The DC Comics film will unite the Man of Steel and the Dark Knight for The First Time on the big screen.

Cumberbatch's recent film roster includes The Fifth Estate, 12 Years a Slave, and August: Osage County with Meryl Streepand Julia Roberts. His upcoming projects include The Imitation Game, The Hobbit: There and Back Again, Magik, The Penguins of Madagascar, Everest, The Lost City of Z and Flying Horse.

He is well known for his portrayal of Sherlock Holmes in the UK series "Sherlock". Other recent film credits include J.J. Abrams' Stark Trek Into Darkness.

The actor starred in Steven Spielberg's War Horse film adaptation and in 2011 alternated leads in Danny Boyle's production of Frankenstein. His other theatre credits include Hedda Gabler, for which he received an Olivier Award nomination.
