Bebe Neuwirth to Star in Musical Comedy Pilot for Amazon

Broadway veteran Bebe Neuwirth has signed on to star in Amazon's upcoming musical comedy pilot BROWSERS, Deadline has announced.

BROWSERS comes from David Javerbaum (THE DAILY SHOW) and 3 Arts Entertainment, and follows a group of interns working at a website publication based in Manhattan. Neuwirth, the site reports, would play their boss. Javerbaum is set to executive produce. Filming is expected to begin this spring as Amazon lines up its premiere slate of streaming shows.

Bebe Neuwirth has established herself as a versatile performer on stage, film and television. She won the Tony, Drama Desk and Astaire Awards for the role of "Velma" in the SMASH hit Broadway revival of Chicago. She also received a Tony Award for her role as "Nickie" in Sweet Charity. Her other Broadway credits include Fosse, Damn Yankees, Dancin', Little Me, and A Chorus Line. In addition, she has performed leading roles in numerous regional Theater Productions including West Side Story for the Cleveland Opera, the title role in Kiss of the Spiderwoman on London's West End, The Three Penny Opera at A.C.T., and Katherine in The Taming of the Shrew at Williamstown Theater Festival. She performed a successful run of Here Lies Jenny at The Zipper Theater in New York. Comprised of music by Kurt Weill, the show was created by Leslie Stifelman, Roger Rees, Ann Reinking, and Ms. Neuwirth. She also recently appeared in Manhattan Theater Theatre Club's New York Premiere of Golden Age, which just closed on Jan. 13.

Neuwirth's work in film includes How To Lose A Guy In 10 Days, Liberty Heights, Summer of Sam, Celebrity, Jumanji, Green Card, The Paint Job, Bugsy, and Tadpole, among others. On television she is well known for her role of "Lilith Sternin" on "Cheers" and "Frasier," for which she won two Emmy Awards. Other television appearances include her Emmy nominated portrayal of Dorothy Parker in "Dash and Lily," as well as a principal player on "Law and Order - Trial by Jury."
