Did Fiona Gallagher just do something to make her life better? Is that possible? Did she finally realize that she's actually worth something? My goodness, there are a lot of changes in the South Side of Chicago this season.

Beginning with Kev and Vee, Vee has moved out and into the "Milking Station" above The Alibi. She wants some space from Kev. Since Mickey kicked Svetlana out, she decides to move in with Kev to perform wifely duties. I can't see this arrangement pleasing Vee when she discovers it.

Chuckie is super nervous about going to school and "Uncle Carl" winds up becoming his protector. In exchange for his services, Carl requires Chuckie to be his slave. Meanwhile, Debbie is desperately trying to move out of the Friends Zone with Derek. She turns to the girl she beat up for some advice on how to make her move. When she heeds the advice, Derek isn't receptive at first until she confesses everything to him and he grabs her and kisses her. Yes, our little Debbie finally has her first boyfriend.

Sammy has taken on the mother role in the household and she and Frank are in an all out war until Frank will apologize to her. The two go back and forth taunting each other until Sammy finally pulls a gun on Frank and shoots him in the arm. When she literally pours salt in his wound, he finally admits that he is sorry and he does actually need her. It is a tender, albeit messed up, moment for Frank and Sammy.

On the first day of classes, Lip's schedule doesn't come through and he finds out his Grant check didn't arrive. He wasn't aware that you have to reapply for the Grant every year. He never got the paperwork because no one at home told him he got mail. He takes advantage of all the student credit cards and takes out cash advances to pay his tuition. (Oh Lip... I went down that road many years ago... still recovering. Run, I say, RUN from those student credit cards!!!! #themoreyouknow) Lip buys a private mailbox to send his mail to instead of the Gallagher household.

When Ian finally regains consciousness in the psyche ward, he is still very out of it. Mickey and Fiona come to visit him, but his head is still very foggy from the medication. Mickey can barely handle it. Ian tells his doctor about his mother's condition and the doctor sees signs of bipolar disorder in Ian, but he refuses to acknowledge it even when she lets him know medication can control it.

Fiona confesses to Gus that she slept with Jimmy. Gus tells her he wants to meet him to talk things through. When Jimmy tells Fiona he's leaving for Dubai and he wants her to come with her, she agrees to the meeting of her husband and her ex. Upon introductions, Gus promptly punches Jimmy out. (Point for Gus) Gus informs Fiona that Jimmy's not a great guy and she deserves better. Jimmy lets her know that he has decided not to go to Dubai, he wants to stay and be with her. But she asks him to let her go and to let her let him go. He does as she asks and leaves. His friend stops by and tells Fiona that the client cancelled the Dubai trip, not "Jack." See, Gus was right, "Jack's" not a good guy.

Fiona and Lip are both taking great strides this season to try and finally grow up. I always think of Fiona as someone who should be way more mature and doing more sensible things, but I forget she's only in her early 20's. She's actually making normal mistakes in her own specific set of circumstances. And she is learning (a tad slowly) that her mistakes have consequences. I don't know if this is the last we'll see of "Jack," but if it is, I sure will miss Justin Chatwin. Jack may not be the greatest guy, but Justin Chatwin is a force.

And my weekly concern for Mickey and Ian continues as I don't know how much of this Mickey will be able to handle. He has never had love like this for any human being and watching Ian and feeling entirely helpless does not bode well for them. My heart does skip a beat now every time Mickey introduces himself as Ian's boyfriend. And by the looks of it, Fiona's does too.

Lines I Love:

  • Carl - How does he touch your arm? If he punches it, you're friends, if he squeezes it, he likes you.

  • Kev - Hey, it takes two to tangle.

  • Svetlana - I no longer live at Mickey's. Danny Bonaduce take baby, it's no safe anymore.

  • Jimmy - Damn! My nose is NOT having a good week.
