Season Three has come to a close and we saw a wedding, but no baby. But could anything really top Season Two's finale of Danny and Mindy kissing on the top of the Empire State building? Probably not, but this ending left me a little underwhelmed.

The time for Peter's wedding has arrived and everyone is headed to Austin for the big event. Peter arrives in NY to visit and since his big blowup with Pubes at the bachelor party has left him without a Best Man, he asks if Mindy will be his. (I've always loved their friendship). Much to Morgan's dismay, Mindy happily accepts. Peter recommends a new doctor for her since he'll be living in Austin. The new doctor (Guest Star, Laura Dern in a thick Ukrainian accent) tells her she cannot fly any longer so she has to skip Peter's wedding. Although reluctant to attend the wedding at first, Jeremy does wind up going and being Peter's Best Man.

Mindy is heading up to Boston for the night to see her parents off before they leave for India for a year. Danny agrees to go, but pulls out at the last minute. At Annette Castellano's, Mindy arrives to a surprise baby shower. Morgan arrives with four of Mindy's ex-boyfriends Josh (Tommy Dewey), Casey (Anders Holm), Jamie (BJ Novak) and Eric Lee (Max Greenfield). Morgan is convinced that one of them is the father, not Danny. Mindy of course disputes it and confesses that her parents don't yet know Danny is the father. She tells Danny she was afraid to tell them about him since she doesn't know if he's serious about her. And she's right as he confesses to the room that he doesn't know if he wants to get married. They argue and it ends unresolved. As Danny heads out to the wedding, he changes his mind and instead flies to Mumbai to confess to Mindy's parents that he wants to be with her.

Well, I have to admit, I was a little disappointed. I applaud the confidence in Mindy and the writers that they will have a Season Four, because that was one heck of a cliffhanger. If they do not, they will go into the DEADWOOD and TWIN PEAKS vault as one of the most frustrating endings of TV shows cancelled too soon. No baby? And the whole episode just felt really rushed. I'm not going to place blame on Mindy for that, but FOX. Why not give them an hour finale? Did we need a NEW GIRL repeat instead? We need WAY more of Peter's wedding, especially of his and Jeremy's choreographed Best Man Dance. And the whole thing just wrapped up really quickly. It was so plot heavy and so much to get jammed into a half hour we missed out our usual favorite quips from Beverly and Tamra and Dr. Bergdahl who were mostly pushed in the background. And what a waste to have all those wonderful guest stars and use them for three minutes? Speaking of which, where were the rest of her exes? No Ben Feldman? Tim Daly? Bill Hader? Glenn Howerton? Lee Freaking Pace? And why Laura Dern with a Ukrainian accent? Again, for two minutes? Even it was spread out over a couple episodes like last year's glorious "LA/The Desert" two parter. I do seriously hope that FOX steps up and does the right thing to renew this show for a Season Four, because this show and all these beloved characters deserve a way better ending.

Lines I Love:

  • Danny - A Best Man that's a girl? What's next? The maid of honor's gonna be a chair? Thanks a lot, Ryan Murphy.

  • Mindy - Hey babe, are you at South Station? I'll come and get you. Whatever you do, do NOT talk to any white people. In Boston, they're the dangerous ones.

  • Mindy - I'm going to Texas and I need to know if I can ride a mechanical bull.

  • Morgan - I used my extensive knowledge of your sexual history and the plot of MAMMA MIA and several thousand dollars of my savings to wrangle the four of your ex-boyfriends that I find the sexiest to find out which one is the father.

  • Casey - Hey, Mindy, I know it's been a minute since I've been all up in it, but I want to be in my son's life. I want to provide tight kicks for his little feet.

Sorry to end on such a downer, this is still one of my favorite comedies. Thanks for playing along all year. Hopefully, see you next year?
