As BWW reported yesterday, ABC sources reported that "Live! With Kelly and Michael" co-host Michael Straham will be joining the team at GOOD MORNING AMERICA. According to the report, discussions have been underway between ABC News and the former NFL player over the past several months.

While Strahan will not be replacing any of the GMA anchors, he will be featured regularly during the morning show's 7 a.m. hour before taking on his daily hosting duties on Live! With Kelly and Michael. His early morning appearances are not expected to occur five days a week.

On today's Live!, Strahan revealed that he himself learned the news that he would be joining the ABC morning show when he checked his text messages following a screening event he attened Tuesday night, and called the announcement, "surprising."

Co-host Kelly Ripa pressed the issue further asking if the report was true. 'Are you going?', she inquired. "If I read the papers, I am," replied Strahan. "But this is my home," assuring her that he will still costar with her on the 9 a.m. talk fest.

Last week it was announced that GMA anchor Josh Elliot wold be leaving the show where he has been working since 201 and will head over to NBC Sports. Amy Robach will be replacing Elliot.

Strahan spent his entire 15-year NFL career playing for the New York Giants. During his tenure with the Giants, Strahan set a record for the most sacks in a single season in 2001, and won a Super Bowl in his final season in 2007. After retiring from the NFL, Strahan became a media personality. He is currently a football analyst on FOX NFL Sunday, and he also serves as co-host on the television morning talk show Live! with Kelly and Michaelalongside Kelly Ripa.

He starred in and produced the short-lived FOX sitcom Brothers and appeared as host for Pros vs. Joes alongside fellow FOX football analyst Jay Glazer. On February 1, 2014, he was elected to the Pro Football Hall of Fame.
