BAFTA LA to Honor Daniel Day-Lewis With 'Stanley Kubrick' Award

The British Academy of Film and Television Arts Los Angeles® (BAFTA Los Angeles), which is celebrating its 25th anniversary this year, has announced it will honor multi-Academy® and BAFTA Award-winning actor Daniel Day-Lewis with the prestigious Stanley Kubrick Britannia Award for Excellence in Film, at the 2012 BAFTA Los Angeles Britannia Awards presented by BBC AMERICA on Wednesday, November 7, 2012 at the Beverly Hilton Hotel.

The Britannia Awards are BAFTA Los Angeles’ highest accolade, a celebration of achievements honoring individuals and companies that have dedicated their careers to advancing the entertainment arts. The awards are presented annually at a gala dinner, where peers and colleagues celebrate the work and accomplishments of these distinguished honorees. Proceeds from the gala ceremony support BAFTA Los Angeles’ on-going education, scholarship, community outreach and archival projects.

“We are thrilled to bestow Daniel with this prestigious award. His remarkable body of work ensures that this honor is more than well-deserved, and we are excited to include him among the other esteemed honorees of the evening,” said Britannia Chairman, Nigel Lythgoe.

Daniel Day-Lewis joins previously announced honorees include acclaimed actor Daniel Craig (Britannia Award for British Artist of the Year), Academy® and BAFTA Award-winning director Quentin Tarantino (John Schlesinger Britannia Award for Excellence in Directing), Trey Parker and Matt Stone, Emmy Award-winning co-creators of South Park and Tony Award-winning co-creators of The Book of Mormon (Charlie Chaplin Britannia Award for Excellence in Comedy), and video game designer Will Wright (Albert R. Broccoli Britannia Award for Worldwide Contribution to Entertainment).

For the first time ever, the BAFTA LA Britannia Awards will be broadcast on BBC AMERICA, airing in primetime November 11, 2012 at 8pm ET as a two-hour special, preceded by the Britannia Awards Pre-show Special at 7:30pm ET.

The Britannia Award was first given to Albert R. “Cubby” Broccoli in 1989. Past recipients also include Warren Beatty, Helena Bonham Carter, Sir Michael Caine, Tom Cruise, Robert De Niro, Clint Eastwood, Colin Firth, Tom Hanks, Dustin Hoffman, Anthony Hopkins, the late Stanley Kubrick, George Lucas, Steven Spielberg, Martin Scorsese, Dame Elizabeth Taylor, Christopher Nolan, Emily Blunt, Sean Penn, Dame Helen Mirren, Ben Stiller, Kate Winslet and Denzel Washington.

BAFTA Los Angeles

The British Academy of Film and Television Arts Los Angeles is the only Anglo-American professional organization founded to promote and advance original work in film, television and interactive media.
