As first reported by Deadline, Allison Janney and Phillip Baker Hall have officially signed on for Jason Bateman's upcoming directorial debut, BAD WORDS. The dark comedy is set to begin filming this week in LA.

Based off of Andrew Dodge's original screenplay, BAD WORDS chronicles a middle-aged man (Batemen) who dropped out of high school and decides to enter the National Quill Spelling Bee. Janney and Hall will take on the roles of the spelling bee directors. Rohan Chandz, Kathryn Hahn and BEN FALCONE round out the cast.

Darko Entertainment is financially backing the film, while Bateman, MXN Entertainment’s Mason Novick, and Darko’s Sean McKittrick and Jeff Culotta are set to produce.

BAD WORDS has not yet received a release date.
