Plácido Domingo, the Eli and Edythe Broad General Director of LA Opera, has announced that the company's Opera at the Beach series will return to the Santa Monica Pier for a second season. Made possible through the generous support of Los Angeles County Supervisor Sheila Kuehl, the free live video broadcast is back by popular demand following last year's triumphant live simulcast of La Traviata.

The opening production of LA Opera's 2015/16 season, a double bill of Giacomo Puccini's Gianni Schicchi and Ruggero Leoncavallo's Pagliacci, featuring the talents of Mr. Domingo as both singer and conductor, will be broadcast live in high-definition video from the Dorothy Chandler Pavilion to the big screen at Santa Monica Pier on Saturday, October 3, at 7pm. The live broadcast will be captured by nine cameras at the Dorothy Chandler Pavilion and shown simultaneously on a large LED screen on the Santa Monica Pier deck.

"I am thrilled to celebrate our 30th Anniversary Season by singing in Gianni Schicchi and conducting Pagliacci," said Mr. Domingo. "It is such a joy to share both my passions with the thousands of patrons experiencing Opera at the Beach. What an exciting way to fall in love with opera!"

"I'm truly happy to welcome LA Opera back to the big screen on the beach at the Santa Monica Pier, continuing the incredible success of last year's live inaugural broadcast of La Traviata," said Supervisor Sheila Kuehl. "It's a fantastic combination of the beauty of opera and the natural splendor of our California coastline at dusk."
