Fresh from three sold out performances of Bizet's The Pearl Fishersthis month, OperaDelaware today announced that tickets are available for three all-new performances featuring some of America's most popular up-and-coming opera stars.

The performances will be held tonight, April 26 at 7:30 p.m. at OperaDelaware Studios at 4 South Poplar St. in Wilmington; May 1 at 7:30 p.m. at the Delaware Theater Company at 200 Water St. on the Wilmington Riverfront; and May 4 at 2 pm at the Baby Grand, 818 N. Market St. in downtown Wilmington. Tickets range in price from $25 to $60 and are available by visiting www.operade.org or calling 302-442-7807.

"Our Spring Sings events will showcase an extraordinary cast of soloists and the OperaDelaware chorus performing greatest hits from the world of opera," said Brendan Cooke, OperaDelaware's General Director. "This is a great opportunity for the opera novice to get his or her feet wet as well as for seasoned opera lovers to hear this glorious music in three unique and intimate settings."

OperaDelaware's Music Director, Jeffrey Miller will accompany at the piano.

Some of America's best young opera talent will come to Wilmington to perform the three concerts:

  • Baritone Tim Mix who has sung with The Washington National Opera, The San Francisco Opera, and numerous major city orchestras, returns to OperaDelaware;

  • Soprano Victoria Cannizzo, whose performances have been described as "a mark of artistry" and "strikingly beautiful;"

  • Tenor Kirk Dougherty, whom critics say has a voice that is a "limitless, iridescent instrument;"

  • Mezzo-soprano Lauren Curnow who performs this year with operas in Los Angeles and Chicago;

  • Bass Matthew Curran who has performed with The Atlanta Opera and others.

"We're delighted to showcase these wonderful performers, and delighted to bring opera closer to its fans in multiple venues downtown," Cooke said. "This is all a part of our strategy of re-imagining OperaDelaware and we're feeling optimistic about its future."
