June 23-29, Opera on Tap presents an immersive evening of sex education, opera-style, as part of The Brick's first ever F*ckfest (a "sextival" featuring new works with unique, playful, and subversive approaches to sexuality). Coursework includes scenes from The Inner Circle (www.theinnercircleopera.com), a sexually blunt new opera about the charismatic visionary Dr. Alfred Kinsey, by the "fascinating and engaging" (Washington Post) composer Daniel Felsenfeld paired with provocative performances and readings by burlesque star Nasty Canasta (and friends). Eye candy and condoms provided free of charge with class enrollment.

Performances are June 23 at 7pm, June 26 at 9pm, June 27 at 1pm, and June 29 at 9pm. Tickets are $18, available in advance at this link or by calling Theatermania at 866-811-4111.

The Inner Circle is a sexually blunt new opera, with a libretto by Kate Galebased on TC Boyle's novel, that tells the story of a group of sexual researchers in the 1940s, led by the charismatic visionary Professor Kinsey, who embark on a revolutionary scientific program of capturing and studying human sexual behavior in a way never before attempted.

The cast includes Maria Elena Armijo, Chelsea Feltman, Joy Jones, Andrew Luzania, Heather Michele Meyer, Cameron Russell, Patricia Vital, and Matthew Yohn as the inimitable Professor Kinsey. Scenes from The Inner Circle are musically directed by Mila Henry, with stage direction by Joseph Hendel, sets by John Peery, lighting by Gertjan Houben, and costumes by Erika Munro.

The Inner Circle is the second commission in Opera on Tap's Roadworks Series, which commissions new full-length operatic works by up-and-coming composers. These works are intended to be immersive, entertaining and accessible to a large population, with a focus on American personalities and culture. The first commission in the series was James Barry's comedic operaSMASHED: The Carrie Nation Story, which premiered at HERE Arts in 2013 and was performed at the New York International Fringe Festival in 2014. Called "joyous" by The New York Times, SMASHED was one of sixteen productions chosen for the FringeNYC Encore Series.
