New Opera NYC Presents A Concert Of Music From Ilya Demutsky, 2/3

Award-winning Russian composer Ilya Demutsky will be holding his first ever concert in New York City hosted by New Opera NYC. An international success, Demutsky is a composer for orchestra, chorus, chamber ensemble, piano, voice, as well film music.

The legendary Bolshoi Theatre of Moscow commissioned Demutsky to compose a new full-length ballet, A Hero of Our Time, which won the Golden Mask Russian National Theatre Award for Best Ballet Production for 2015/2016, as well as the award for Best Composer in Musical Theatre for Demutsky. Two new ballets composed by Demutsky will be premiered in 2017: a new work commissioned by the San Francisco Ballet , and the full-length ballet Nureyev commissioned by the Bolshoi.

Film The Student directed by Kirill Serebrennikov with music by Ilya Demutsky won the François Chalais Prize at the 2016 Cannes Film Festival. As a film composer, Demutsky has worked extensively with Emmy-, TEFI- and Nika- award winning film director Sergey Miroshnichenko (Born in the USSR: 28 Up, Rings of the World, the official film of the Sochi 2014 Olympic Games and others). He has also composed music for the opening ceremony of the 2014 Paralympic Games in Sochi.

Demutsky is the laureate of the International Composition Competition «2 Agosto» (Bologna, 2013), the Jim Highsmith Composition Competition (San Francisco, 2008), the International Prokofiev Composition Competition (Saint Petersburg, 2012), the Tikhon Khrennikov Composition Competition (Lipetsk, 2013) and many others.

This concert will include Sonata for Piano, Concerto for Flute (with piano), Cantilena for two Violas, Scherzo for Viola and Double Bass and a special excerpt from the new opera Black Square (work in progress) commissioned and to be presented by New Opera NYC.
