Natalie Dessay returns to the Metropolitan Opera in the title role of Donizetti's Lucia di Lammermoor. Lucia is one of Dessay's most acclaimed portrayals, first seen at the Met in the 2007 premiere of Mary Zimmerman's production.

Dessay is joined by three co-stars who are singing their roles for the first time at the Met: Joseph Calleja as Edgardo, Ludovic Tézier as Enrico, and Kwangchul Youn as Raimondo.

The March 19 matinee will be transmitted to more than 1,500 movie theaters in 46 countries around the world as part of The Met: Live in HD series.

The bel canto tragedy, set in Scotland, tells the story of an innocent young girl forced into a political marriage - an arrangement that drives her mad from grief. The famous mad scene is one of the most harrowing and demanding in all of opera, and Dessay throws herself into it with fearless abandon.

Middlebury's Town Hall Theater will carry the broadcast, which starts at 1 pm. Tickets are $22, and may be purchased at www.townhalltheater.org, 802 382-9222, at the THT Box Office (Mon-Sat, Noon - 5 pm) and at the door, if available.
