Michaela Martens will sing the role of Kundry in this evening's performance of Wagner's Parsifal, replacing Katarina Dalayman, who is ill.

Martens makes her company role debut as Kundry. She made her Met debut as Aunt in Janá?ek's Jen?fa in 2007 and has also sung the Countess in Giordano's Andrea Chénier, Alisa in the new production premiere of Donizetti's Lucia di Lammermoor, and Gertrude in Humperdinck's Hansel and Gretel. Later this season, she will sing the Second Norn in three complete cycles of Wagner's Der Ring des Nibelungen. Her recent roles with other companies include the Kostelni?ka in a new production of Jen?fa at Zurich Opera, conducted by Met Principal Conductor Fabio Luisi, and Marilyn Klinghoffer in the London premiere of John Adams's The Death of Klinghoffer at English National Opera.

The Met's new production of Parsifal, conducted by Asher Fisch and directed by François Girard in his Met debut, also stars Jonas Kaufmann as Parsifal, Peter Mattei as Amfortas, Evgeny Nikitin as Klingsor, and René Pape as Gurnemanz.
